Ok, I’m making a new book containing work I’m producing at the moment and based around the seemingly chirpy title “Drawings For Summer Time”. Here’s some examples of my sketchbook material I’m considering:

more soon, or less, depending on how extreme my editing is…

Now the second year of university is almost over, I’m making a start on a few projects I have lined up over summer. I just got a seriously nice job with two friends designing and printing a new map for Barton-upon-Humber as well as some work featuring in a couple of exhibitions in London and Norwich. I’m also putting together an illustrated book about Grimsby and Cleethorpes. Now my last essay for this year has been handed in I plan to rest and watch Diagnosis Murder and daytime telly for the rest of today.

Over a couple of days I made mono-prints of old photos and black and white, high contrast pictures I took with my Yashica T4. The prints are quick to produce and I find them rather satisfying. It is however quite a tricky technique to learn and I’m around my 80th print so far. These are some of my quick A4 prints so far, no doubt I’ll have loads more soon.

Monotype of a strange man I saw one night in Cleethorpes.

Composite of several prints from the same plate with additional materials added such as alcohol and charcoal.

It’s coming up to assessment time for my second year at uni so much stuff to do. These two illustrations I made a while ago. They’re editorials I made for Charlie Brooker’s Guardian articles. The first one is for the article Michael Winner’s Dining Stars. I enjoyed the lines; “Winner revels in his arrogant eccentric’s role. Every Moment is deeply, unpleasantly strange”.

I have added photographs of my models for a university brief “Make Me A Monster”. The models were made using 2mm gauge galvanised wire armature wrapped in aluminum foil as bulk and covered with Super Sculpey, cured and painted and varnished using acrylics. The bases are made from old taxidermy wall plaques, that were previously used for mounting small animal skulls.

As part of a project a few weeks ago we were asked to design one or more monsters. Here’s a few drawings from my sketchbook which led into 3D works in polymer clay, I will upload photos of them soon, but for for now enjoy.

An unofficial series of postcards for the UK’s Cooper’s Hill  Cheese Rolling and Wake. Unfortunately the 2010 event is canceled, I was planning a trip there, never mind… I painted these in oil, ink and pencil – Not used oil in ages, unfortunate it takes so long for it to dry…
